Day 1: Fun at the Airport
We left the house early today, the first of August believing that we were catching a noon flight from San Jose to Las Vegas before flying to London Gatwick airport. Google maps told us we had a two hour drive, so when we left our house at 8:30 am, we were confident that we would make it to the airport with time for check-in, security, and boarding. As we started the drive, I started receiving text messages from our airline.
The first one stated that our flight had been rescheduled to 1 pm. Then, it was pushed to 2:07 pm. Then at 3:02. Then at 3:37. At that point, I started to worry, as I knew our flight out of Vegas was leaving at 3:35. I quickly dialed the airline to see what was going on. After a rather long delay, 40 minutes, I was able to talk with a helpful agent. She was very apologetic, but shared we would indeed miss our flight. I could hear the flurry of keystrokes, as she tried to find another way to get us to London. She shared that she could reschedule us for a similar flight a day later. She then asked if I would mind switching airports to Heathrow instead of Gatwick. I stated getting there was kind of important. Again, I heard a flurry of keystones before hearing, “I can send you through Los Angeles if that is Ok.”
We did not care where our layover was as long as we got to our destination. After a comment about “I don’t want you to have that long of a layover,” she shared that she could get us to London at about the same time we were scheduled to arrive originally, just at the other airport. I shared that I would need to work out picking up a rental car at the other airport, but that we would be happy for the switch.
With all of that being said, we are currently five hours into our time at the San Jose airport with about two left. Luckily, when you travel with good, low maintenance people such as those pictured below, it is actually a pleasure.

Maria, an OCDS (Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites in English), was just searching for anything Carmelite on our trip. She had forgotten that we had already chosen one monastery, but came across a website that shared that the relics for St. Therese of Lisieux, a Carmelite Doctor of the Church, and of her parents, also canonized Saints, Sts. Louis and Zellie Martin, will be in Ireland due to the World Gathering of Families happening later in the month! I just talked about St Louis Martin this past weekend as a prime example of manhood for the Central Valley Catholic Men’s Conference! Now we all get to venerate all of their relics at the Knock Basilica! Good things await us.
